We give out of gratitude.
Throughout the Bible, we see the importance placed on giving. Beginning in Genesis, God tells Abraham that he is being blessed to be a blessing to others. The New Testament is filled with Scriptures instructing us to give and care for others. Jesus teaches us to give as well, but ultimately it is God’s gift of salvation (through the sacrifice of His son Jesus on the cross) that overwhelms us. Our desire to give comes from this eternal gratitude.
We give intentionally to charities in our community that we feel bring hope and life to people—organizations that empower a person or family to become self-sufficient. We invest our time and giving in charities that work hard at building relationships and restoring each person’s dignity and worth. It is our hope that as we serve out of our own brokenness, God’s grace and love will shine through. As we work and give within our community, lives are changed and our whole community is strengthened.
We also read in the Scriptures of the Great Commission, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Therefore, we also make giving and travelling internationally a priority. We support charities working in Third World Countries which are both fighting poverty and sharing the love of Jesus. We strive to ensure that our resources are being used wisely and efficiently. We have travelled to Africa (and will return again this summer) to see first-hand the work being done and the lives being changed. We again focus on organizations that are building relationships, empowering people to be self-sufficient, and restoring dignity.
In all of our giving, it is our goal to share the grace and love of Jesus and bring glory to God.
