Green Valley Auctions is proud & honored to have been selected for the estate dispersal of prominent Waynesboro attorney, philanthropist, author, civic & government leader, Joseph Byron Yount, III. Known to all as J.B., Mr. Yount, whose forefathers settled in Augusta County in 1808, was a prolific writer of various historical subjects including Fishburne Military School, Lao Russel of Swannanoa fame, and numerous articles on early Shenandoah Valley life. J.B. immersed himself in his family’s illustrious life from Switzerland to Augusta County where the elder Younts became owners of several prosperous farms and were leaders in innovative stock breeding. J.B.’s grandfather, Joseph B. Yount (I) was the founder of the Waynesboro Automobile Company; Joseph B. Yount (II) was a beloved Waynesboro attorney. Over the decades J.B. acquired many family heirlooms including items from the Yount country home “Maple Manse” - located north west of Waynesboro.

The auction for the J.B. Yount estate will feature 19th c. Virginia furniture, Mr. Yount’s extensive library featuring 18th & 19th c. leather bounds, historical documents, 19th & 20th c. Navy Blue Wedgwood porcelain, 19th c. Virginia stoneware, extensive collection of acclaimed New York artist George Speck (Mr. Speck grew up in Waynesboro and was a personal friend of Mr. Yount’s), plus many more items that were packed previously to Green Valley’s involvement.
