Susan Pinnell

Susan was born in Baltimore and raised in Timonium, Maryland. In 1989 while stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland as an airman with the USAF Security Police Squadron, she met Dan Pinnell who at that time was a local police officer. They were married in February 1990.

After leaving the Air Force in 1990, Susan worked in the Health Insurance industry for twelve years. In 2002 while employed as a Claims Department Team Leader for Aetna, Inc., the company underwent a national reorganization resulting in the elimination of Susan's department. The changes at Susan's company coincided perfectly with Dan's retirement after twenty years of service; so in August 2002 with severance and retirement packages in hand, they moved to the Shenandoah Valley to work for Green Valley Auctions and search for an old house to call home.

Less than one year later, Susan and Dan moved into their circa 1787 stone house in Linville. The house was built by Revolutionary War Captain George Chrisman, a grandson of Jost Hite, one of the earliest pioneer settlers of the Shenandoah Valley. The house was placed on the Virginia and National Historic Registers in 2006.

Susan and Dan are members of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society, Fort Harrison (where Susan is on the Board of Directors along with good friend Beverley Evans), the Early American Pattern Glass Society, the Rushlight Club, the Historical Lighting Society of Canada and the Hite Family Association.

Much of Susan's spare time is spent working with Dan on the house and grounds and researching the Chrisman/Hite family histories; she also enjoys antiquing, visiting various historic sites, semi-regular "Girls Nights Out", visiting with friends and family and tending to horse Molly and six cats.
