President, Auctioneer (VAR #555) Antiques and Decorative Arts Division Head Jeff has been working at Green Valley Auctions, Inc. since he was six years old. He acquired his "common criers" license and "cried" his first auction, a 4H benefit sale, when he was twelve years old. In 1979, he and his wife Beverley inherited the auction business. Jeff's expertise in Early American Pattern Glass, 18th and 19th century Shenandoah Valley furniture and pottery is recognized throughout Virginia and across the United States. He has worked as an appraiser and consultant for the collections at the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace in Staunton, VA; the Stonewall Jackson House in Lexington, VA; the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, VA; the Shenandoah Valley Folk Art and Heritage Center in Dayton, VA; the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY; the Sandwich Glass Museum in Sandwich, MA; and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) in Winston Salem, NC. Aside from his duties as President, Head Cataloger and Auctioneer at Green Valley, Jeff is on the Board of Directors at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society (HRHS) and serves as the Head of the Shenandoah Valley Folk Art & Heritage Center's Museum Committee. Despite his busy schedule, Jeff volunteers his services to Fort Harrison in Dayton, VA and to the Early American Pattern Glass Society on an annual basis, as appraiser and auctioneer, respectively. He is also active in the National American Glass Club and the International Nippon Collector's Club. He has lectured and taught classes on antiques including American Glass and Valley pottery. In 1995, he contributed his collection, knowledge and time to the Shenandoah Valley pottery exhibit at the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace. His most recent museum involvement was as co-curator of the 2004 landmark Rockingham County folk pottery exhibit "A Great Deal of Stone & Earthen Ware" held at the HRHS's Folk Art Museum in Dayton, VA. Jeff also co-authored the full-color catalog for this exhibit with Dr. Scott H. Suter. Jeff spends his spare time reading, researching, relaxing with friends, listening to his son's music and helping his son with his band. | |
