Lot 714 - A FINE ENGRAVED LIGHT-BALUSTER WINE GLASS WITH COVER, colorless lead glass, round funnel bowl engraved with a pair of clasped hands within a crown-topped cartouche, the reverse inscribed "MIND GY EDELE VRIENDSCHAP TEEDER, VULD MY DAN TOOT AAN DEN RAND, DRINKT MY LEEG, AND VULD MY WEEDER, STELD MY ZOO UW VRIEND TER HAND.", raised on a slender double-knopped teared and beaded stem, and a plain conical foot with rough pontil mark. The domed cover features an applied beaded spire finial and an interior rough pontil mark. Probably Dutch, possibly Jacob Sang. Mid 18th century. 10 1/2" h overall, 7 5/8" h glass, 2 7/8" dia rim, 3 1/8" dia foot. Undamaged except for a minute nick (1/16") to glass rim and two under the foot, cover with a shallow chip to the inner rim. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.

Note: Two very similar examples without covers, one signed by Sang and the other with an identical inscription, from the glass collection of Dr. Otto Dettmers were sold by Sotheby's in London, November 23, 1999, lots #15 and #16. According to the catalog, the inscription, which translates as "If you value tender, noble friendship, Then fill me to the brim, Drink me empty and refill me, And thus hand me to your friend." is from a poem by Dirk Smits' "Gedichten", published in Rotterdam in 1740.
Lot 715 - FREE-BLOWN AND ENGRAVED CHALICE WITH ENCAPSULATED 1842 FOUR-PENCE COIN, colorless, bucket-shape bowl diamond etched "Robert & Elizth Bruce Married Septr 13th 1840" and "A Present From their Affectionate Brother Edward 1858", each within an engraved wreath on opposing sides, the remainder of the bowl is engraved with grape bunches, raised on an applied hollow globular knop containing the silver coin and a circular foot with polished pontil mark. English. Third quarter 19th century. 9 1/4" h, 5 1/4" dia rim, 4 1/4" dia foot. Undamaged. Estimate: $400 - $600.

Lot 716 - FREE-BLOWN WINE GLASS, light green lead glass with appropriate inclusions and impurities, shallow nearly straight-side bowl with thick drawn stem, applied folded foot with rough pontil mark. Probably New England. First quarter 19th century. 3 3/4" h, 2 1/8" dia rim, 2 3/8" dia foot. Undamaged. Estimate: $200 - $300.

Lot 717 - FREE-BLOWN, CUT AND ENGRAVED WINE GLASS, colorless, ovoid bowl engraved with a bird and floral spray decorations, cut hexagonal-faceted stem, plain broad foot with rough pontil mark. Probably English. Fourth quarter 18th century. 4 7/8" h, 1 7/8" dia rim, 2 3/4" dia foot. Undamaged except for a minute nick under the foot. Estimate: $200 - $300.

Lot 718 - FREE-BLOWN AIR TWIST WINE GLASS, colorless, bell bowl with solid base, multiple-spirals continuing into base of bowl, plain sloping foot with rough pontil mark. English. Second half 18th century. 6 1/2" h, 2 1/2" dia rim, 2 3/4" dia foot. Undamaged. Estimate: $150 - $250.

Lot 719 - PATTERN-MOLDED RUMMERS, SET OF FOUR, deep cobalt blue, each featuring an ovoid bowl molded with 12 lower flutes, applied short tapered stem and sloping foot with rough pontil mark. English. 19th century. 4 7/8" h, 3 3/8" dia rim, 3" dia foot. Undamaged. Estimate: $150 - $250.

Lot 720 - FREE-BLOWN WINES, ASSEMBLED SET OF FOUR, brilliant emerald green, each featuring a cupped bowl with flaring rim, applied button stem and sloping foot with rough pontil mark. One slightly darker in color. Probably English. 19th century. 4 1/4" h, 2 1/2" dia rim, 2 1/2" dia foot. One with polished spot under rim, others undamaged. Estimate: $150 - $250.

Probably 19th century. 5" h, 3 1/4" dia rim. Undamaged with some light wear to decoration. Estimate: $100 - $150.

Lot 722 - ENAMEL DECORATED FREE-BLOWN FLIP GLASS, strong aquamarine, polychrome bird and heart with additional floral decorations, kick-up base with rough pontil mark. Continental. Probably 19th century. 4 7/8" h, 3 1/2" dia rim. Undamaged with some light wear to decoration and an area of light interior residue. Estimate: $100 - $150.

Lot 723 - FREE-BLOWN, CUT AND ENGRAVED ALE, colorless, round funnel bowl with hops and barley decoration, cut hexagonal-faceted stem, plain foot with rough pontil mark. Probably English. Fourth quarter 18th century. 6 7/8" h, 2 3/8" dia rim, 2 7/8" dia foot. Undamaged except for a minute flake and corresponding very lightly ground area on rim. Estimate: $100 - $150.

Lot 724 - FREE-BLOWN WINE GLASS, aquamarine, bell-shape bowl featuring a thick base with a tear which continues into the upper half of the tapered low-knop stem, on a domed folded foot with rough pontil mark. Possibly New York State. 19th century. 4 1/2" h, 2 3/8" dia rim, 2 1/2" dia foot. Undamaged. Estimate: $100 - $150.

Lot 726 - FREE-BLOWN WINE GLASSES, LOT OF TWO, colorless soda-lime glass, first with teared flattened-knop stem and folded high-domed foot, second with eight-sided pedestal stem and folded domed foot, both with rough pontil mark. Probably Continental. 18th century. 5 1/4" and 6 3/8" h. Undamaged, second with light interior wear. Estimate: $100 - $150.

Lot 727 - ENAMEL DECORATED FREE-BLOWN TAPER TUMBLERS, LOT OF TWO, colorless, both with polychrome bird and floral decorations, and rough pontil mark. Continental. Late 18th or early 19th century. 3 1/2" h, 3" dia rim, and 4" h, 3" dia rim. Smallest with base crack, second undamaged, both with very minor enamel losses. Estimate: $100 - $150.

Probably English and/or Continental. 19th century. 3 5/8" to 5" h. Three with polished rim, one with moderate crizzeling, largest with chip to one foot corner, several flakes to other feet. Lot 734 - FREE-BLOWN JELLY GLASS, colorless lead glass, deep conical bowl with folded rim, set into a gadrooned base and sloping foot with rough pontil mark. English. 18th century. 4" h, 2 1/2" dia rim, 2" dia foot. Undamaged with a burst bubble to top of gadrooning. Estimate: $75 - $125.

Lot 753 - PATTERN-MOLDED WINE GLASSES, LOT OF THREE, colorless, two featuring a conical bowl molded with upper ribs swirled to the right, a short drawn stem and domed folded foot, along with a taller conical bowl example molded with lower ribs swirled to the right, a button stem and plain foot, each with a rough pontil mark. American and/or European. 18th or 19th century. 4" to 5 1/8" h. First two undamaged, third with a chip to stem. Estimate: $50 - $75.

Probably English and/or Continental. 19th century. 4" and 4 1/4" h. Scallop-rim jelly undamaged, other jelly with small rim chips and wear, monteith with small inner-rim flake. Estimate: $50 - $75.
