Sample of Important Material Already on Hand
  • An important Shenandoah Valley Folk Art carved and painted yellow pine carousel horse attributed to James W. Sheetz, Shenandoah Co., VA, most certainly from the same carousel as the example sold through these galleries, November 10, 2007. In exceptional condition retaining an outstanding original dry painted surface.

  • A fine Dave the Slave stoneware 5 gallon ovoid jar with a high-gloss glaze, inscribed "March 4, 1857, Dave, LM", 15" high, which descended in the Easterlin family of South Carolina. In exceptional condition. This jar has never been out of the Easterlin family and is fresh to the market.

  • A fine Virginia Federal walnut 16-pane flat-wall cupboard with two waist drawers above two low doors, all raised on applied bracket feet, in outstanding original condition including a wonderful dry surface.

  • A very important recently discovered 19th century American Patriotic hooked rug, 30" x 88", featuring a spread-wing eagle, crossed flags, shield and hearts, in excellent condition.

  • An exceptional brightly colored folk art watercolor of two ladies standing beside a flowering vine and tree, inscribed "Tuesday, Feby 19th, 1828, Shrove T.", from the Sheets family of Augusta Co., Va. and by the same unidentified artist as the single portrait, also from the Sheets family, sold through these galleries in 2006.

  • Rare DC/Alexandria decorated stoneware including a signed "JOHN WALKER" 1 gal. pitcher, a signed "R.BUTT / W City DC" 1/2 gal. milk pan, and a signed "J BLACK. / D C / ALEXa" 1/2 gal. jar.

  • Bell family earthenware pottery including a most important cobalt decorated tin, copper, and lead-glazed cake mold stamped 8 times with an unrecorded small "S. BELL" mark, probably Winchester, Va.; a graduated set of signed John Bell cake molds; and an "APPOLA" plaque attributed to John Bell.

  • A large selection of other good folk pottery.

  • An important Civil War carved wood pipe depicting Stonewall Jackson on a horse along with other historical symbols and signed "EDGAR HOUGHTON, 7th LA INF". Houghton joined the Continental Guards on June 7, 1861 at Tangipahoa, LA. His company, along with other companies of the 7th Infantry, was immediately ordered to Virginia just in time to participate in the first Battle of Manassas. In the spring of 1862, Houghton's Brigade joined Stonewall Jackson's Army in the Shenandoah Valley where he took part in many battles. Conflicts outside of the Valley in which Houghton was a participant include Gettysburg and Petersburg. He was captured at Waynesboro, VA on March 2, 1865 and sent to Ft. Delaware where this pipe was most likely carved. Houghton was released on June 9, 1865; he was one of only 42 of the original 944 men who enlisted in the 7th LA Infantry to survive the war. This remarkable pipe has descended in the family and will be accompanied by a complete account of Houghton's war record.

  • The Richard and Joanne Galgano country store collection

  • Plus our normal fine selection of American and Georgian furniture, fine art, decorative arts, folk art, silver, ceramics and glass, collection of Quimper, Arts & Crafts material, a fine collection of post cards, collectibles, plus more.

We will be adding more highlights to this site as they become available.
