Flint Tableware, Various Owners

  • HORN OF PLENTY WITH WASHINGTON HEAD (Lot #413, far left - $2200), covered sweet meat, six lobed stem with waffle pattern under foot, wafer construction. 8 3/4" h overall, 5 3/8" h base, 6" d. Cover with only minor mold roughness, base lightly polished under foot.

Horn of Plenty: The Collection of Jerry Baker

  • HORN OF PLENTY WITH WASHINGTON HEAD (Lot #414, far left - $2600) covered butter. 5" h overall, 6" d. Lid with 1/4" internal annealing fracture, base with areas of rim polished.

  • HORN OF PLENTY (Lot #439 - $3500), oval open compote, high standard, six lobed stem and circular patterned foot, wafer construction. Boston and Sandwich Glass Co., 1850-1870. 6 1/4" h, 8 1/4" x 11 1/4". Undamaged, annealing separation on rim.

Lacy & Other Early Pressed Glass

  • LACY TOY TUREEN WITH COVER (Lot #585 - $1500), deep fiery opalescent, stippled fans and scrolls on sides and cover, star and six rosettes surrounded by rope under base. Boston and Sandwich Glass Co. 2" h overall, 1 7/8" x 2 1/2" rim. Edge of cover polished, probably at factory, small chip on side of one base handle.
    1. Darker version of Spillman, pl. 7.
    2. Elsholz, lot #632, which was exhibited at the Detroit Institute of Arts, 1953, No. 188.



Rare Colored Flint Glass

  • ASHBURTON (Lot #602A - $7000), creamer, brilliant canary, applied solid handle, polished pontil. Boston and Sandwich Glass Co. or New England Glass Co. 5 3/4" h overall, 3" d foot. Undamaged.
    Reference: This is the mate to the covered sugar bowl in the Sandwich Glass Museum collection and illustrated in B & K I, #1135.
    Note: Extremely rare and previously unrecorded. While both McKearin and Lee documented several forms of this pattern in color, neither had recorded the existence of this creamer.

  • LOOP (LEAF) (Lot #614 - $2700), vase, brilliant canary, seven bold loops expanded to a thick scalloped rim, applied without a wafer to a slightly domed foot having ten concave panels and scalloped edge, polished pontil. 8 1/4" h, 5 1/2" d rim, 4 1/8" d foot. Undamaged except for some expected light wear to several loops and the interior.
    Note: Rare and unlisted. The only other located examples are a pair formerly in the Ray Barlow collection.



Blown Glass

  • IMPORTANT FREE-BLOWN AIR TWIST CANDLE (Lot #638 - $4100), lead glass with light grey tint, deep waisted cylindrical socket with wide flange, slightly tapering stem with entrapped air twists, multiple rings above and below stem, supported by a circular double step foot with pontil. Probably Pittsburgh. 11" h, 4 1/4" d foot. Undamaged.

    Provenance: Very few of this candlesticks are known to exist. The referenced example was acquired by Corning from the McKearin collection in 1955.



Colored EAPG & Victorian

  • CABBAGE LEAF/RIVERSIDE NO. 135 (Lot #748 - $3400), four piece table set, light amber, butter, covered sugar, creamer and spooner. Riverside Glass Works. 4" to 6 3/4" h overall. Remarkably undamaged. The absolutely best possible examples available of a very scarce set.
    Provenance: Collection of Marjorie and Duell Glover.

  • LOG CABIN (Lot #782 - $2100), covered sugar, blue. Central Glass Co. 6 1/2" h overall, 4 1/2" h base, 3 1/4" x 4". Exceptional condition, lid having a chip on inner rim and a minor flake under two corners, base with a minor flake on one corner and mold roughness on rim.
    Reference: Lindsey, #182, clear variation.

  • MONKEY - AMBER STAINED (Lot #785, far left - $3500), water pitcher with rayed base, stained monkeys and trees. 8 1/2" h overall. Two rim scallops polished off..

    Note: Stained Monkey is very rare and this is the only known water pitcher.



Mugs & Children's Glass

  • WILD ROSE WITH SCROLLING (Lot #856 - $2400), four piece table set, chocolate, butter, covered sugar, creamer and spooner, stippled background. 2 1/2" to 4 1/2" h overall. Spooner with two large areas of rim loss, butter lid and creamer handle with normal annealing lines.
    Reference: Measell, fig. 296 - 299.



Non-Flint Tableware

  • BLEEDING HEART (Lot #976 - $2700), covered egg server, flat, plate with four round cups for eggs and pattern underneath, lid with four domes to cover cups, ribbed finial and pattern underneath. 4 1/4" h overall, 7" d. Center cup with three tiny flakes, lid with 1" crack in center dome and minor mold roughness..
    Reference: Flat version of Innes, pl. 389, without cover..
    Note: While this extremely rare lid has been rumored to exist for many years, it has never before actually been published or photographed. This represents only the third example known.

  • CANTON - HOUSE (Lot #1004 - $7000), covered compote, high standard, lid with cottage, trees and fence on one side and lakeside foliage on other, shaped star and button finial, base with farm scene and two cows on one side and river with walking bridge on other, hollow ribbed stem and circular foot on four feet. Canton Glass Co. 11" h overall, 5 1/4" x 7". Unbelievable condition, having only several small chips under lid flange and a chip inside of one foot.

    Note: Not previously recorded or photographed and the first time we have sold or observed this extremely rare compote.

  • CANTON - LIGHTHOUSE (Lot #1005 - $3100), rectangular covered cheese dish, lid with lighthouse on one side and sinking ship on other, shaped star and button finial, base with two handles, knife rack and four feet. Canton Glass Co. 7 1/4" h overall, 4" x 4 7/8" lid, 6 1/2" x 8 1/4" overall base. Lid with two finial chips and rim flaking/mold roughness, base is undamaged having only a 3/8" annealing line at one foot and minor mold roughness..
    Provenance: Collection of Harold Essmaker. Purchased from Jerry Wood. Ex: Scott Brown.
    Note: Not previously recorded or photographed and the first time we have sold or observed this extremely rare dish. It is the same form as the Canton Jumbo covered cheese dish with a retooled lid.

  • LION - FROSTED (Lot #1121 - $3200), milk pitcher, applied handle with pressed waffle design on crimp. 6 3/4" h overall, 3 1/2" d foot. Undamaged..
    Provenance: Collection of Harold Essmaker. Purchased from Hazel Rawls.
    Note: This is the first published photograph of the milk and water pitchers together. One of the rarest forms in this pattern, behind only the powder jar and cologne bottle.

  • LION - FROSTED (Lot #1127 - $3800), covered powder jar, lid with rampant lion. 4 1/2" h overall, base 2 1/8" h, 3 3/8" d. Undamaged, frosted over manufactory chip under lid.

    Note: This is the first example of this very rare jar that we have sold and only the second that I have seen.

  • MONKEY (Lot #1174 - $1800), four piece table set, butter, covered sugar, creamer and spooner. 5" to 7 1/4" h overall. Butter with polished lid rim and inner base rim, sugar with chip under lid and small flake on base rim, others with less than normal under base mold roughness.

  • THREE FACE (Lot #1291 - $4300), covered biscuit jar. George Duncan and Sons. 9 1/2" h overall, 4 7/8" d. Small chip under lid, otherwise undamaged.

    2. Antiques/Am. Glass, pg. 107, Lee states, "I know of but one of these jars that has been found in recent years."
    3. Antiques/Am. Glass, pg. 164, Lee states, "Another rarity in the Three Face pattern, in partly frosted and partly clear glass, is the tall, ribbed, covered biscuit jar."

    Note: This is only the second example of this very rare jar that we have sold. The other being from the 1998 landmark Robb collection auction.



Lighting From The Collection of Catherine M. V. Thuro

  • BELLFLOWER SINGLE VINE (Lot #1406 - $1650), large bracket or hanging font, #3 collar, unpatterned shoulder with filler collar and cap. 4 5/8" h, 7" d. Undamaged.
    Reference: Pattern as Thuro I, pg. 88a.
    Note: This is only the second Bellflower font we have sold and the first in this large size.

  • 1893 CHICAGO WORLDS FAIR TYPE LAMP (Lot #1477 - $1900), banquet, opaque white with gilt and paint decoration, unpatterned font and stem, brass #3 collar with P&A Duplex burner and shade ring, matching shade, burner retains its cotton wicks with material sewn to the ends, includes marked Macbeth Pearl Glass chimney. 22 3/4" h, 34 1/2" h to top of chimney. Undamaged glass, slight patches of wear to gilding.

    Note: This is the actual lamp as illustrated in Thuro. Family history of whom this lamp was obtained will accompany this piece.

  • SOLAR (Lot #1482 - $1250), stand lamp, stamped brass font with minor discoloration, excellent and original gilded finish is mostly intact upon the cast brass ÒMartha WashingtonÓ stem and base plates, cut and engraved Oregon shade is an older replacement and with a 4 3/4" base, burner appears complete and sound, stamped and cast brass shade and chimney retaining ring, stamped brass prism ring with prisms, double marble base. This lamp is offered with both an original chimney and a custom made Pyrex replacement. 14 3/4" h without chimney and shade, 24 3/4" h assembled. Minor base flakes to original chimney flange.

Colored Kerosene Era Lighting Various Owners

  • CUT DOUBLE OVERLAY (Lot #1511 - $1550), stand lamp, rose over white over clear, fully cut with stars, quatrefoils, ovals, punties and vesicas, large clear wafer, reeded brass standard and double step marble base with brass ornamentation. Boston and Sandwich Glass Co. 13" h. Small no harm open bubble on edge of one clear oval, 1/2" split in lower edge of stem.
